A client had acquired Elmbrook Farm, a former farmstead located within the Metropolitan Green Belt. Planning permission was secured to demolish the dilapidated house and outbuildings, and to create a new family home by converting the timber-framed Essex barn and linking it to a new build replacement “farmhouse”.
A mezzanine floor was constructed in the barn, and the frame was fully exposed internally. To make best use of the barn’s characterful interior, all living accommodation is located here, so that the client and family can maximise on the double height spaces and views out to the garden.
