John Finch Partnership was asked by King Edward VI Grammar School to design a new Art Centre, replacing and modernising the previous facilities. The building now accommodates a total of six art studios, along with a kiln room, staff room, and ancillary storage.
The two-storey building sits between two existing teaching blocks, constructed in brick with a low-pitched hipped slate roof, and double storey curtain walling, reflecting the materials and detailing found elsewhere in the school site. Exposed bolted trusses at first floor, together with rooflights create light and airy studio spaces.
